SIR PETER SHAFFER - AUTHOR OF AMADEUS AND EQUUS DEAD AT 90

One of the true greats of the British theatre has died.
Playwright Sir Peter Shaffer was 90.
He died Monday while on a visit to Ireland with friends and family.

Shaffer’s award-winning hits included Equus and Amadeus.
He won Tony awards for both of those plays and they were made into highly successful films – with Amadeus winning eight Academy Awards in 1984 – including best picture.
Shaffer was born in Liverpool in 1926.
He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2001.
