One man was shot after an incident in the US Capitol on Monday.
Police in Washington DC say they shot at a man, who was believed to have fired shots at the US Capitol Complex.
Visitors and staff were told to shelter in place, and officials at the White House and the complex were locked down during the incident.
Initial reports suggested a police officer had been injured, but officals confirm it was the gunman that was shot instead.
His condition is unknown.
An innocent bystander also suffered unknown injuries.
Police say this appears to be an isolated incident involving a man they say is known to them.
Congress was in recess at the time of the shooting.
