It’s a rare occasion when a California police officer makes a traffic stop without writing a ticket. Problem is, there was no driver in the vehicle to give it to.

A statement from Mountain View police said  that an officer pulled over a Google self-driving car that was being tested on local roads Thursday. It certainly was a speed issue but this time the vehicle in question was so far under the limit, 40 in a 55 kilometer zone that the officer had to do something. After he stopped the car, he realized it was a Google Autonomous Vehicle. He contacted its operators to let them know it was impeding traffic. No citation was given.

The law insists a person is required to sit behind the wheel of self-driving cars.
