Some classes are resuming today at York University despite the ongoing strike by teaching, research and graduate assistants.

York U’s website says classes will resume in engineering, business and nursing along with some courses in Liberal arts and professional studies.

Some 200 York U profs say they’re concerned with the decision and are urging the university not to resume classes.

“They have to do with the complications for the students, with some classes starting and others not starting so a very complicated situation for them,” explained Professor Ricardo Grinspun to CP24, “and (it’s difficult) for faculty members, many of (whom) do not want to cross the picket lines and want to express their solidarity with the striking graduate students who are now demanding tuition indexation which is a very important element for that.”

University vice-president Rhonda Lenton says university representatives will meet tomorrow to discuss plans designed to resume the balance of courses on Monday.

Two of three bargaining units representing the assistants rejected a tentative agreement late Monday while a unit representing contract faculty voted in favour.
