It’s taken 250 years but Voltaire finally has a best seller on his hands.
His 1763 “Treatise on Tolerance” has been climbing the French bestsller lists following the Paris terror attacks earlier this month. The book is a cry against religious fanaticism and stemmed from Voltaire’s conviction that religious differences were at the heart of world strife. He wrote at a time of bloody tension between French Protestants and Catholics. The book now has a place among the bestsellers for Amazon, FNAC and French bookseller Gibert Joseph.
