After more than 60 years in show business, actress Joan Collins will finally receive a long-awaited damehood in the New Year’s Honours in her native England. After making her stage debut in “A Doll’s House” at 9 years old, the 81 year actress trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. At 22, she headed to Hollywood and later made her name in raunchy movie adaptations of two of her sister Jackie’s blockbuster novels. But, it was her award-winning role as shoulder-padded Alexis Carrington in the 80’s soap “Dynasty” that made her a global star. When asked about the damehood, Dame Collins apparently replied, “there is nothing like a dame!”.
