Dozens of Toronto business and community leaders slept on the streets Thursday night in sleeping bags on a piece of cardboard. They braved a wind chill of minus-18 to raise money for homeless kids. The third annual Covenant House Executive Sleep Out raised more than $900,000 for the facility, about $100,000 over the original goal. Those braving the cold included the Chairman of the Stronach Group, Belinda Stronach, the CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Tim Leiweke and Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair. Covenant House provides shelter and a variety of programs for homeless youth with a budget of $21.8 million the lion’s share of which is provided by donors.
