Ontario Provincial Police say a massive multi-vehicle pileup has closed Highway 400 in Innisfil, south of Barrie – and the highway will likely be shut down for much of the day.
Police say as many as 96 vehicles were involved in a series of collisions this morning near Innisfil Beach Road – which resulted from poor visibilty and icy conditions as a huge snowsquall swept through the area.
The highway is closed in both directions between Highway 89 and Mapleview Drive and drivers are advised to avoid the area.
Crews are working to clear away the vehicles and the OPP have set up a command post – at Georgian Downs – for those involved in the pileup.
There are no reports of serious injuries at this time.
