The campaigning is underway for real now that the prime minister has called four byelections for November 25th. Two of the races are shaping up as battles for the opposition. Both Toronto Centre, recently vacated by interim Liberal leader Bob Rae and Montreal’s Bourassa riding are long standing Liberal strongholds. The NDP and the Liberals are both running journalists as candidates in Toronto Centre. Former Toronto Star reporter Linda McQuaig is the NDP standard bearer, Former Globe and Mail reporter Chrystia Freeland is running for the Liberal. The other two byelections are in the Manitoba ridings of Brandon-Souris and Provencher and are expected to remain in Conservative hands. NDP leader Tom Mulcair says his party is going to do everything is can to steal the two ridings and make it clear his party is the only viable alternative to the Harper Tories. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says he`s heard the call from Canadians for something new and better and says his party is ready to stand and deliver.
