Our first show tonight is from the series Philo Vance, a fictional character featured in 12 crime novels written by S. S. Van Dine (the pen name of Willard Huntington Wright), published in the 1920s and 1930s. During that time, Vance was immensely popular in books, movies, and on the radio. He was portrayed as a stylish, even foppish dandy; a New York bon vivant possessing a highly intellectual bent. Here’s tonight’s episode entitled The Cellini Cup
And stay tuned for The Bickersons, a show created by Philip Rapp, the one-time Eddie Cantor writer who had also created the Fanny Brice skits (for The Ziegfeld Follies of the Air). The show’s married protagonists, portrayed by Don Ameche and Frances Langford, as you will hear, spend nearly all their time together in relentless verbal war. The show tonight might ring a bell with some married couples, one of whom snores!
