11PM TOP CENSORED STORIES OF 2012

Richard welcomes a history professor and director of Project Censored to discuss the top censored stories from 2012, including, The Emerging U.S. Police State; The Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Was Far Worse Than Reported; Evidence That the FBI is Responsible for Most of the Terrorist Plots Inside the United States; and How New York City Police Plant Drugs on Innocent Citizens in Order to Meet Arrest Quotas.  The mission of Project Censored is to teach students and the public about the role of a free press in a free society – and to report the News That Didn’t Make the Mainstream News and explain Why.

Guest: Mickey Huff is the director of Project Censored and is on the board of directors for the Media Freedom Foundation.  He is currently professor of social science and history at Diablo Valley College (DVC) in the San Francisco Bay area, where he is co-chair of the history department.  Huff is co-host with former Project Censored director Dr. Peter Phillips of the Project Censored Show.  The program airs weekly as part of The Morning Mix on Pacifica’s KPFA Free Speech Radio in Berkeley, CA, and rebroadcasts on several stations including NoLiesRadio.org and the Progressive Radio Network out of New York City.  He is also on the steering committee of Banned Books Week working with members of the American Library Association, the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, and the National Coalition Against Censorship, among others, as Project Censored is a co-sponsor of the events this year.

12AM THE AMERICAN EMPIRE

Richard speaks with a director, producer about her latest film, American Empire; An Act of Collective Madness,  which is indictment of  an economic empire she says is destroying the planet.Beginning with the founding of the Federal Reserve our economy is controlled by a system of debt and inflation.  For a period of five years Patrea Patrick and crew travelled the country to assemble the research, opinions and warnings of critical scientists, thinkers and writers, resulting in an alarming analysis of the partly invisible yet decisive link between Wall Street, corporate business and American politics. The film does not only hold their hidden pact responsible for a fluctuating economy, which is controlled by a system of debt and inflation and ruled by the rich and the very rich;American Empire also points out how the dangerous merger of political and commercial power has had a destructive effect on the environment, health and the basic values of democracy. Or, as one interviewee explains: “It is not the definition of ‘empire’ that has changed, it is the definition of ‘American’ that did.” Some go as far as to say that, purely driven by short-term profit quotas and being powerful enough to make decisions such as cutting off the internet at once, America has turned into a clandestine dictatorship.
