Coming up this week on Finding Your Bliss, the award
winning Canadian acapella group Countermeasure.
Anyone who has seen the film, Pitch Perfect, knows that there is something instantly feel-good about a group of talented singers who sing without instrumental accompaniment. Think everything from pop to jazz to original music and their voices alone make it all happen musically.
Artistic Director Aaron Jensen and one of their singers, Hayley Preziosi are on the program to tell you all about what makes Countermeasure, Canada’s leading acapella group, so joyful, so creative and so infectious!
We also will hear some songs from their latest album, Guest Sessions. Countermeasure, has just released the video for HOLD ON – the first single off their concept album, Guest Sessions. Countermeasure’s musical director, Aaron Jensen, composed HOLD ON, inspired by a conversation with bandmate, and vocal soloist Qwyn Alexis. The song reflects the experiences of motherhood: the fear and helplessness of setting your children out into the world, and the hope that by instilling them with love, decency, and pride, they’ll be equipped to face whatever life has in store.
The video for HOLD ON features Qwyn’s
actual family – and represents how the images seen on the
news, and the horrors of ongoing conflicts in the world,
can infiltrate and intrude into our daily lives. Its message is
more relevant now than ever – that amidst chaos and
upheaval, you can always find strength in yourselves and
through supportive relationships. The track features
award-winning Toronto-based vibraphonist, Michael
