Ontario public health experts are launching a new research centre focused on improving immunization rates and countering unfounded fears fueled by the anti-vaccine movement.
It will be the first academic centre of its kind in Canada to focus primarily on public perception of vaccines and exploring ways to boost confidence and vaccination rates.
The centre will be led by Natasha Crowcroft, Chief Science officer at Public Health Ontario. Crowcroft says vaccine hesitancy is a growing threat and measles outbreaks in places such as New York could easily happen here. But she cautions we need to raise our game.
The World Health Organization has declared refusal or wariness of vaccinations one of the top ten global health threats this year. Libby speaks with Dr. Crowcrowft and Dr. Iris Gorfinkel joins us in studio.
