Today is Earth Day with this year’s focus is on protecting endangered species that are threatened by climate change, habitat loss, poaching or other human causes. Founded in 1970, Earth Day was created to help educate the public on emerging air and water pollution. Nearly forty years later, more than 1 billion people in 192 countries now take part in the largest civic-focused day of action in the world, according to the Earth Day Network. Here in Canada, it’s become an annual event that highlights environmental concerns and encourages civic action. Fill in host Jane Brown speaks with Jill Heinerth, the world’s foremost female cave diver who’s expeditions help us to understand climate change and Miriam Diamond, Professor at U of T’s Faculty Environmental Science.
