Medical science is facing a challenge at the TTC. Elaine Ferrell is a subway train operator and takes medicinal cannabis to offset the side effects of the opioids she takes for pain, but she’s been told by the transit authority she will have to take a job with a pay cut if she continues taking medical cannabis. But if she wants to continue driving she needs to stop the cannabis and stay on the opioids. The TTC’s Brad Ross says the decision was made with consultation from a medical expert. But Ferrell’s doctor Michael Verbora says the type of medical cannabis she is prescribed won’t get her high. As for Ferrell, she says the fight isn’t just about her and she will continue the struggle to get off opioids. Libby speaks with TTC Executive Director of Corporate & Customer Communications Brad Ross and Pharmacist John Papstergiou.
