Should the City of Toronto step in and buy what may be the oldest tree in the city? It’s a 300-plus year old red oak and it’s on the property of a home in the Sheppard and Weston Road area. The real estate agent for the homeowner says the roots are threatening the structural integrity of the house and represent 60 to 80-thousand dollars in lost opportunity for the property owner. And if the city doesn’t buy it, the owner will chop it down. Some people feel the property should be turned into a parkette. Joining us to talk about this big, beautiful tree is Toni Ellis, who is a heritage tree coordinator with Forest Ontario.
