Libby Znaimer is joined by Derek Valleau, Co-Owner of Pukka, a restaurant in Toronto and Sylvain Charlebois, Director of the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University.

Canada’s restaurants have been hit hard amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Now that Ontario and other provinces are slowly easing restrictions and allowing restaurants to reopen to the public, what will Canadians attitudes be towards going out for meals?

Angus Reid Institute surveyed 1,505 Canadians in early June and what it found is that 52-percent of Canadians intend to avoid food joints in an effort to protect their health. It also found, however, that as many as 64-percent of Canadians have been ordering takeout at least every two weeks. Sylvain is the lead author of the report. He discusses its findings in greater detail and we check in with Derek to see how his restaurant is holding up as the process of reopening gradually unfolds.
