Yesterday, the BC Supreme Court ruled that Huawei Exec Meng Wanzhou’s extradition proceedings will go ahead. It’s a decision that will, undoubtedly, have a negative impact on Canada’s relationship with China, which is already strained as it is. What challenges will this bring about in our country’s efforts to secure the release of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, two Canadians who were detained in China a short time after Meng’s arrest? And, could their treatment by Chinese authorities worsen in retaliation for the Court’s ruling?
