Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate among all major cancers because few people know the risks and symptoms and are subsequently diagnosed at an advanced stage. In nearly every country, pancreatic cancer is the only major cancer with a single-digit, five-year survival rate (2-9%).

World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day is an initiative of the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition, which brings together more than 80 organizations from over 30 countries—including Canadian organizations Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society and Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation.

Jane Brown is filling in for Libby Znaimer. She is joined by Dr. Anish Kirpalani, Pancreatic Cancer Canada’s board chair and a radiologist with 10 years of practice experience in Canada and the US, to discuss the issues surrounding this most challenging form of cancer.
