It had never been done before. A patient waiting for a new set of lungs by way of organ donation – for six days. Wednesday, Burlington mom Melissa Benoit did just that after doctors at Toronto General Hospital had successfully removed her diseased lungs keeping her alive on machines for 6 days before a donor could be found. Dr. Shaf Keshavjee – the director of the lung transplant program at the University Health Network joins the show to talk about the procedure and Ronnie Gavsie, the president and CEO of the Trillium Gift of Life network will speak on the importance of donating.
