A new report has been released by Health Quality Ontario stating that 60% of the people who die in Ontario receive palliative care. However, those people who are fortunate enough to receive it, usually start it too late. Nearly half of these patients don’t access the service until their last month of life. There’s also a big disconnect. While most people say they want to die at home, the majority receiving palliative care actually die in hospital. Libby spoke with Dr. Joshua Tepper who is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Health Quality Ontario and Gabriel Miller, the Director of Policy & Public issues at the Canadian Cancer Society to shed some light on this important issue.
