As I travel the lakes and mountains of Central Europe, I have come across another potential innovation for travellers on the move: the world’s first motorized, smart and connected carry-on luggage. And yes, I said motorized…

The aim of Modobag is to make travelling more functional and fun. So instead of lugging around your heavy suitcase, let your luggage do the work of carrying you around. The Modobag is designed to carry riders of up to 260 pounds at speeds of up to eight miles per hour, or roughly three times normal walking speed. When you consider the sometimes vast distances air travellers are expected to cover these days in the mega, sprawling airport complexes, it’s a pretty attractive proposition to simply climb aboard your carry-on luggage and zip from terminal to terminal.

The bag can travel up to ten kilometres on a single charge. It is lightweight, and can easily convert from motor to pull-behind use. It comes with dual USB charging ports for your electronics and optional GPS tracking. It has 2,000 cubic inches of packing space, and is fully approved by the authorities. It also fits into those aircraft overhead luggage bins. Modobad soft-launched a few months ago with its prototype and I wish them well for a successful full launch later this year. You can check out their website at Modobag dot com.
