It’s an engineering marvel that has been called “One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World” that would be difficult…if not impossible to construct today.

I’m referring to the Panama Canal and l am looking forward to traveling this building miracle with other Zoomer listeners later this week as we sail from Ft. Lauderdale Florida to San Diego California with eight exciting ports of call in between.

Cruise Holidays of Clarkson has arranged this thrilling vacation through the Panama Canal that took 33 years to complete and cost the lives of tens of thousands of workers who succumbed to almost impossible working conditions.  The Canal itself consists of 6 locks and takes about  8 hours to traverse….and interesting fact…because of the shape of the Isthmus of Panama the canal actually traverses North to South and not East to West as you would expect.

Over the next few weeks…I’ll chronicle this trip of a lifetime with as many photographs as time (and internet connection) will allow.

I hope you’ll follow our impressive journey from the Atlantic to the Pacific on board Holland America’s beautiful Eurodam.

So long for now and I am looking forward to what promises to be a breathtaking trip!
