On June 23rd, 1990, Buddy Holly’s Gibson acoustic guitar sold for £139,658 ($237,419) in a Sotheby’s auction. The guitar was in a tooled leather case made by Holly himself.The guitar is said to have been bought by actor/performer Gary Busey who had bought the guitar at a Sotheby’s auction after playing the title role in the movie, “The Buddy Holly Story.”
