On February 20th in 1965, Gary Lewis & the Playboys started a two week run at No. 1 on the US singles chart with ‘This Diamond Ring.’ The group were made instant stars after appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show, selling over one million copies by April 1965.
Gary Lewis is the son of comedian and actor Jerry Lewis
