On November 25th, 1965 The Seekers were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with their single The Carnival Is Over. This had been the group’s second No.1 hit. It had originally been a Russian folk song from 1883 with the lyrics written by Tom Springfield (Dusty Springfield’s brother).

At its peak, the song was selling 93,000 copies per day and was the No.30 best selling singles of all time in the UK.
