On November 1st, 1980 Bruce Springsteen scored his first No.1 US album with The River.
Springsteen made this album during the recession in the late 70s to depict the hardships that many Americans were facing, including his brother-in-law who had recently lost his job. It was also the first record in which Springsteen began to tackle the subject of men, women, families and marriage.
