On August 12th, 1978 The Commodores were at No.1 on the US singles chart with their single Three Times A Lady. This hit also climbed to No.1 on the UK charts and became Motown’s biggest British selling hit.

Singer Lionel Richie originally wrote this song about his love for the three women in his life – his wife, his mother and his grandmother, hence the title of the song.
