On May 27, 1977 Declan McManus made his live debut at the Nashville in London as Elvis Costello. Costello began his early career as part of London’s pub rock scene and later became associated with the first wave of the British new wave movement of the mid-to late 70s.
The name change from Declan McManus to Elvis Costello occurred in the early 70s when he adopted his name from a combination of Elvis Presley and his father’s stage name (Day Costello).
