On April 19, 1974 Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band performed at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The venue seats 550 people but only 250 people attended the concert. Why? The promoter decided that word-of-mouth would be enough to sell out the whole venue. Other than word-of-mouth, the concert was unadvertised. Tickets cost $4.50
