The father of country-rock, Gram Parsons, passed away at the age of just 26, after overdosing on morphine and tequila. In the decades since his passing, his legacy has only grown, influencing musicians like Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris and Keith Richards, who wrote about Gram for Rolling Stone Magazine‘s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list:
“I think he was just getting into his stride when he died. His actual output — the number of records he made and sold — was pretty minimal. But his effect on country music is enormous. This is why we’re talking about him now. But we can’t know what his full impact could have been.”
