Your Hit Parade premiered on NBC-TV. The program was an outgrowth of the popular radio program of the same name that had been on the airwaves since the mid 30s. The television program followed a similar format to the radio program, counting down the most popular songs of the week.
“It would flourish for much of the decade, but rock ‘n’ roll finally did it in; the rather staid, traditional renditions of pop songs that characterized Your Hit Parade seemed somewhat passe in the age of Elvis Presley and Little Richard. Without fanfare, the show left television at the end of the 1959 season.”
