The “Empress of Soul”, Gladys Knight was born on this day. Gladys formed Gladys Knight & the Pips with her brother and cousins. They were signed to Motown in the mid-60s but left for a better deal at Buddah Records in 1973. It was at Buddah that they began to see full-fledged success including hits like ‘Midnight Train to Georgia.’
