President Donald Trump has finally conceded the 2020 election.
In a video message, Trump said there will be a new administration on January 20th.
“My focus now turns to assuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power,” said Trump, striking a rare conciliatory tone after months of harsh rhetoric that ultimately culminated on Wednesday with his supporters storming the Capitol building as Congress debated and voted on confirming the Electoral College results.
“This moment calls for healing and reconciliation.”
Trump also criticized the rioters who took part in Wednesday’s chaos in Washington.
Trump’s statement comes as a U.S. Capitol police officer was declared dead after the mayhem. It’s the fifth death stemming from the violence.
Trump has also seen Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Education Secretary Betsy Devos tender their resignations in response to the chaos.
