Michelle Latimer’s documentary on cultural colonization of Indigenous People in North America will not get a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, after all.
Inconvenient Indian
The National Film Board has pulled the movie “Inconvenient Indian” from the festival and won’t push for further distribution of the movie.
It was headed for a Canadian distribution as well as a premiere at Sundance next month.
The decision to pull the movie comes after Latimer’s Indigenous identity was called into question last week.

The NFB says it spoke with the Indigenous participants who appeared in the documentary, and others, including producer Jesse Wente.

It’s based on Thomas King’s non-fiction book of the same name and was a breakout success at the Toronto International Film Festival in September where it won two of the top prizes.
