With government approval of a COVID-19 vaccine or vaccines at-hand, officials continue to formulate how their distribution will roll out.

Federal officials say they expect Canadians over 80 years of age, residents and staff of congregate living settings that care for seniors, front line health workers and Indigenous people in high risk communities will be among the first to receive vaccines once they’re approved and declared safe.

Canada’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam, says she expects to have enough doses of Pfizer’s vaccine to cover most or all of those in those high-risk categories.

Meanwhile, Ottawa’s increasing its order of prospective COVID vaccines.

Procurement Minister Anita Anand says Canada is exercising its option to obtain another 20 million doses of Moderna’s candidate. That brings its total order to 40 million doses for next year.

That’s expected to be enough to vaccinate 20 million Canadians.
