The Trudeau government will deliver a long-awaited update on the state of Canada’s finances November 30.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland made the announcement in the House of Commons after the Liberals had promised Canadians would see an update this fall on the federal deficit as part of a document that might also include initial steps toward a national child-care program.
The government has not tabled a budget for this fiscal year, but in July delivered a ”fiscal snapshot” which estimated the deficit was heading for a record $343.2-billion.
The finance minister says Ottawa will continue supporting Canadians through COVID-19 and ensure the recovery is ”robust, inclusive and sustainable.”
The government’s also said next Monday’s update will provide an outlook for the economy, and spending guidelines to avoid deficits from spiralling out of control.
