It continues to have the lowest survival rate among all major cancers.
Pancreatic cancer has a mere 8-percent survival rate with no change in mortality rates since 1998.
Some 6000 Canadians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, while 5300 people will die of it.
November 19th is World Pancreatic Cancer Day, as advocates say “it’s about time” patients had treatment options.
The theme not only addresses the importance of early detection and awareness of symptoms and risks, but it creates important discussions regarding the inequalities in treatment options available to patients.
Earlier this month, iconic Canadian Alex Trebek died with stage four pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed in March of 2019.

Among the few survivors of pancreatic cancer, is our own Libby Znaimer who has been living cancer free for 12 years. Watch Libby’s story Cancer Saved My Life which made it’s world debut on Vision TV.
Libby says she is alive today because her doctors realized her case of pancreatic cancer was related to the BRCA-2 gene mutation she carries.
