Saying Chinese telecom giant Huawei rose to dominance by stealing technology of defunct Canadian company Nortel, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole is demanding the Trudeau Liberals side with their allies soon in rejecting 5G technology from China.
The demand’s included in a motion that wants the government to decide within 30 days, which companies can provide Canada’s next generation 5G wireless technology, and whether Huawei should be banned amid the ongoing diplomatic tensions.
”We call upon the government to finally grow a spine and make a decision,” says O’Toole.
China’s imprisoned two Canadians; Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, in apparent retaliation for the RCMP arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou on a U.S. extradition warrant nearly two years ago.

O’Toole says he wants a new strategy in dealing with China because he feels Canada has not done enough to stand up to China’s intimidation of this country.
