It’s starting to look all too familiar in Ontario’s long term care homes to the union representing registered nurses, nurse practitioners and nursing students in the province.

Care homes were the site of the biggest outbreaks in the province during the first wave of the pandemic with a tragic number of deaths and the RNAO is worried it’s happening again.
They say there are now more than 100 outbreaks in homes with 2,100 residents and 1,500 staff testing positive for COVID-19. In addition, more than 200 residents of the province’s care homes have died of the virus since Sept. 14.
The union says residents and staff from care homes are being abandoned.
Since the start of the pandemic, more than 2,000 residents of long term care homes and nine staff members have died.
