Saying the first step to saving jobs and the economy is crushing COVID-19, Andrea Horwath wants to see a circuit-breaker-style, targeted, fully-funded lockdown in hotspots over two weeks.
”Doug Ford is cancelling public health protections too fast,” says Ontario’s Official Opposition leader.
Amid another day of record cases for the province, Horwath is calling on the province to pay businesses to undergo a targeted two-week Modified Stage 1 circuit-breaker in hotspots only.
Under the NDP’s proposal, schools would stay open; capped at 15-per-class, bars and restaurants would be open for takeout and delivery and receive provincial funding to get through those two-weeks, as would non-essential small businesses.
Hospitals would continue scheduled surgeries as long as it’s safe.
Horwath believes this approach could prevent surgeries and diagnostics from being cancelled as they were in the first wave.
