When you buy your Christmas holiday stamps this year you’ll find that Canada Post is using three colourful and festive scenes painted by Nova Scotia folk artist Maud Lewis.
The paintings being used for the stamps are Winter Sleigh Ride,
Team of Oxen in Winter,
And, Family and Sled.
All three are from seasonal works held in the collection of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
Lewis’s lively depictions of rural life gained her national and international recognition towards the end of her life and she was immortalized in the 2016 biopic “Maudie.”
Lewis’s paintings once sold for as little as $2.00 a piece but have become prized in recent years.
Lewis died in 1970 at the age of 67.
