Rexall pharamacies in Ontario have temporarily paused the flu shot program due to what it describes as ongoing supply issues.
But Premier Doug Ford continues to say there is no shortage and accuses pharmacies of overbooking appointments based on their vaccine supply.
“You knew the allocations that you had, so don’t overbook people, it’s very simple as that,” warned Ford. “You knew exactly how many flu shots you had so don’t overbook, if you know you have X amount of flu shots, book X amount of flu shots.”
But Ontario pharmacies are receiving only 20 percent of the entire provincial flu vaccine supply.
Amid this unprecedented demand, Ford says it’s a good thing that a third of Ontarians have already received a flu shot which marks a 500 percent increase over last year. And the Premier says it’s still early in flu season and still plenty of time to get a vaccine.
