After missing out on a bid to name a subway stop after him, there’s a movement afoot to name the site of the Montreal Jazz Festival in his honour.
Groups have been working for years to have the name of the late, great Montreal-born jazz pianist Oscar Peterson on the Montreal city map. Now a city opposition party, called Ensemble Montreal, is calling for Place des Festivals to be named in his honour.
Montreal’s Mayor says she’d like to hear from Peterson’s family on the matter.
Peterson made more 200 recordings over the course of his career and won eight Grammy’s.
He died at his home in Mississauga in 2007 at the age of 82.
