One year to the day that the Trudeau Liberals won a minority, the government survived the confidence vote on a Conservative motion to create a committee to investigate its ethics and pandemic spending.
Soon after the motion was defeated 180-146, Government House Leader Pablo Rodriguez said he’s relieved.
”I’m happy that there’s no election.  There’s nobody on this side of the government that wanted an election.  I didn’t want an election.”
Before the vote, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said New Democrats voted for Canadians by not voting for an election.
Tory Leader Erin O’Toole, who was surprised his proposal came to be considered a confidence vote, vows to continue working with other parties to hold the government to account.
