For the first time since allegations surfaced of harassment and a toxic workplace environment at Rideau Hall, Justin Trudeau has publicly come to the defence of the Governor-General Julie Payette.
More than 20 public servants and former employees have claiming the Queen’s representative belittled, berated, and publicly humiliated employees at Rideau Hall.
But the prime minister says Payette has been an ”excellent” Governor-General and is not going anywhere.
”I think on top of the COVID crisis, nobody’s looking at any constitutional crises,” Trudeau said.
”We have put in place a process to review some of the working conditions at Rideau Hall, but that’s not something (replacing Payette) that we’re contemplating right now, going further than that.”
The Privy Council Office has launched an external review with results expected later this fall.
