ATWOOD ENDORSES LGBT RIGHTS IN POLAND

Can-lit legend Margaret Atwood is among a group of prominent activists who have signed an open letter in support of Poland’s LGBT communities.

The letter calls on the Polish government to stop targeting sexual minorities and demands immediate steps by the European Union to defend LGBT rights.

The president of Poland has labelled the LGBT movement as “more destructive” than communism.  Poland does not recognize same-sex unions and same-sex couples are legally banned from adopting children.

Atwood, who is 80, is joined in the letter by dozens of writers, filmmakers and actors including Ed Harris, Pedro Almodóvar, Isabelle Huppert and Stellan Skarsgaard.
