The World Health Organization is recommending people hold off on returning to the dentist until more is known about the risk of spreading COVID-19.

The WHO says there’s currently no data on the spread of coronavirus from the dentist chair but add there are procedures that generate the aerosols known to spread the virus.

They say dental facilities must have adequate ventilation to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in closed settings.

In Ontario, dentist offices were closed at the start of the pandemic procedures in March and started reopening in June.

Staff in dental offices are required to wear ppe including masks, gloves and gowns.
