As of Tuesday July 21st, face coverings or masks are required for riders of GO Transit and UP Express.
Metrolinx President and CEO Phil Verster says the approach with customers is less about enforcement and more about education.
“We’ve taken of our employees out from behind the wickets and they are helping customers, and on trains as well, we’ll be helping customers, advising,” Verster explained to CP24,”Look, when you talk and you haven’t got a face covering on you can share the virus up to a metre, but with a mask on, it’s inches, so it’s education for us.”
Verster says in the past few days, 90 percent of riders have been wearing face coverings or masks, so compliance he says, has been very good.
Face coverings have been mandatory on the TTC and other regional transit systems since July 2nd.
