Premier Doug Ford says municipalities will be finding out next week just how much of the province’s 7-billion dollar share of the 19-billion dollar COVID-19 recovery package they’ll be receiving.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the deal on Thursday where the federal government would be helping out cities that had seen their revenues dry up and expenses rise during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Everyone needs money,” Ford said at an event in Waterloo as he continues to tour the province. “We’re going to split it up equally and make sure the people that need it get the money. Without getting into details, you have no idea how hard I worked with the municipal governments and premiers to get funding for municipalities and transit.”

Toronto Mayor John Tory says the city is facing an expected 1.35 billion dollar budget deficit this year without help from the provincial and federal governments.

Ford wasn’t able to say whether Toronto will get everything they’re asking for.

The relief package will go to things like public transportation, child and senior care, acquiring PPE in case of an uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases.
